Really beautiful here
Romanesque architecture meets Gothic architecture - with its around 1,500 heritage-listed buildings, Regensburg has the largest medieval old town in Germany. Besides this, the oldest bridge preserved in Germany spans the Danube River: the Steinerne Brücke or Stone Bridge. Since the early 8th century, Regensburg has been a diocese and as early as the Middle Ages it was considered a prosperous trading town. Even today, it still gives visitors the feeling of going on a true journey through history.
You can expect an almost southern flair, as if you were strolling through the streets of a northern Italian city. Regensburg's old town has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2006. An excursion into the surroundings is also worthwhile, for example to the neoclassical ancestral temple high above the Danube River bank, the Walhalla. From there you have a wonderful view over Europe's second longest river.
