Bad Dürkheim welcomes its guests to the German wine route on the doorstep of the UNESCO biosphere Palatinate Forest nature reserve. The region is also known as German Tuscany. Its mild climate with up to 1,850 hours of sunshine a year is perfect for growing figs, almonds and exotic fruits such as kiwis and lemons.
The lovely vineyards and wine-growing estates are worth a visit the whole year round – but particularly so in the wine festival season from spring to autumn. Besides relaxation, the region also has something to offer active holidaymakers. Ranging from hiking and cycling to Nordic Walking and mountain biking all the way to Segway tours. Bad Dürkheim’s Wurstmarkt (Sausage market) event is the highlight, and proclaims to be the “largest wine festival in the world”.
