At every turn in Zwickau is evidence of its varied history. From the St. Marien cathedral over the beautiful market place, the Robert-Schumann house through to the Priest houses and the art collections, as well as the imposing grain and cloth merchant’s hall, the town on the contemplative Mulde is shown in a historical light. On a leisurely stroll through Zwickau visitors can discover a number of impressive monuments. On the banks of the little stream, a trip to the Vogtland up to the Ore mountain range is rewarding.
The former coal town is also known as the cradle of the Saxony automobile industry. Historic brands Horch, Auto Union and Trabant are still known today. Since 1904 to the present-day cars have been manufactured in Zwickau. Zwickau’s VW plant currently produces different brands and models.
