Really beautiful here in Chemnitz
City of modernity
Chemnitz is around 850 years old and, with 240,000 inhabitants, is the third largest city in the new federal states. As a dynamically growing location for business and science, the city remains young: this is ensured by over 7,000 companies and, above all, around 10,000 students.
The cityscape, as exciting as it is harmonious, reflects the changes of the last decades; if you want to, you can go on a journey through time between historical buildings and modern architecture. Here you will find industrial monuments, a beautiful Wilhelminian quarter and a city centre that has been completely renovated after reunification.
The best-known monument in the city centre is, of course, the Karl Marx Monument. Not far away you will find the Chemnitz Art Collections with a total of five locations as well as the smac, the State Museum of Archaeology. With opera and theatre, but also the bars, cafés and event venues typical of a university city, Chemnitz offers broad cultural diversity, especially in the city centre, in a place that has remained sympathetically modest and entirely modern.
